Solvent-Free Fluid painting medium is made from safflower oil and alkyd resin (soy oil-based) with no solvent. This medium is non-toxic and emits no harmful fumes.
Solvent-Free Fluid thins oil colors increasing flow and transparency. This medium will also increase gloss and color saturation.
Like Safflower Oil, Solvent-Free Fluid is a 100% fat and best suited for direct painting styles like alla prima or plein air rather than painting indirectly in multiple thin layers. High fat mediums should be used in moderation- we recommend up to 25% by volume in mixture with oil colors. Adding too much of any rich oil medium will increase the possibility of a paint layer to wrinkle as it dries (especially a thick paint layer) and yellow over time. The more medium added to a paint mixture, the more thinly it should be applied.
