Pigments
What is pigment used for?
Pigment is used to create a variety of painting media such as oils, acrylics, watercolors, egg tempera, Cold Wax and encaustic. For example, artists can make oil color by hand by mixing pigment with refined linseed oil to form a stiff paste, then milling the paste with a glass muller
Artists should protect themselves when handling all powdered pigments with a quality dust mask or respirator, gloves, and protective eyewear. The same pigment that is safe to work with suspended in a binder can be harmful to handle or, especially, breath into the lungs as dust.
