Gamblin Relief Ink

Gamblin Relief Inks are formulated for all relief techniques, including woodblock, linocut, monotype, and Solarplate. They contain the right amount of stiffness and tack to hold fine detail yet spread evenly on the block or plate. The palette of ten colors is designed to give artists intense pure pigmented colors straight from the jar, along with a wide range of color mixing capabilities.Relief Inks Gamblin Phthalo Blue

Monotype printmaking, the most painterly of printmaking techniques, is very popular. While most painters and printmakers working in this process learn how to make any kind of ink work, the viscosity of Gamblin Relief Inks makes them ideal for monotype printing processes.

Gamblin Relief Inks are all bound in the highest quality Burnt Plate Oil. Click the color swatches below to enlarge.

Textile Black Relief Ink

After several years of printing woodblock on over 30,000 t-shirts, Drive By Press Studio collaborated with our ink formulators to perfect a rich, dark black ink perfect for printing on t-shirts or any other cotton based fabric. This ink is formulated for even coverage, quick drying time and color fastness wash after wash.

In addition to Textile Black, all our Relief Ink colors are excellent for printing on light colored fabric.

Tips on Textile Printing
With your block inked up, lightly spray the fabric with water. With moderate to high pressure, pass your relief block through the press twice. Both Gamblin Textile Black and Relief Inks on fabric should be allowed to air dry. DO NOT HEAT SET. Dry time will vary depending on the color, thickness of application, temperature, humidity and air flow- anywhere from 3-7 days.

We also recommend giving newly dried printed fabric an additional week or two to cure before laundering.

Relief Ink colors are mostly transparent, so printing on medium to dark fabrics requires adding some white ink to increase the mixtures covering strength. Another option is to print in two layers; white first, followed by the colored ink on top after the white layer is completely dry. This technique requires tight registration.
